Gerald "Gerry" Pemberton

Obituary
Gerald Arthur Pemberton, beloved husband, father, and retired postal carrier, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born on June 3, 1938, in Duluth, Minnesota, Gerry spent 34 years delivering mail through rain, snow, and the occasional overly enthusiastic golden retriever. He was known throughout his route for his warm smile, his endless supply of butterscotch candies, and his uncanny ability to remember every resident's name — including their pets. After retiring in 2003, he devoted himself to woodworking, producing an estimated 400 birdhouses that now populate backyards across three counties. Gerry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dolores; his children, Mark, Linda, and Kevin; seven grandchildren; and one very spoiled cat named Chairman Meow. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Harold. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 21, at the Cedar Falls Community Center, where attendees are encouraged to wear flannel in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Cedar Falls Public Library, where Gerry volunteered every Tuesday afternoon reading stories to children. He will be deeply missed, but his family takes comfort knowing he's finally found a route with no hills and perfect weather.
